WON leading academics from Fraunhofer HHI, Politechnino di Torino, Infinera Portugal and Aston University attended the 21^st International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON 2019) that took place on 9-13 July 2019 Angers, France.

The following talks by the WON teams have been delivered during the Conference:

• Professor Vittorio Curri from Politechnico di Torino delivered an excellent tutorial on data transport abstraction in open optical networks.
• Dr Joao Pedro from Infinera Portugal discussed how real-time performance awareness can contribute to cost-effective restoration in optical networks.
