Prof Gunther Roelkens received a degree in electrical engineering from Ghent University, Belgium, in 2002 and a PhD from the same university in 2007, at the Department of Information Technology (INTEC), where he is currently full professor. In 2008, he was a visiting scientist in IBM TJ Watson Research Center, New York. His research interest includes the heterogeneous integration of III-V semiconductors and other materials on top of silicon waveguide circuits and electronic/photonic co-integration. He was holder of an ERC starting grant (MIRACLE), to start up research in the field of integrated mid-infrared photonic integrated circuits.
Prof Gunther Roelkens has supervised more than 15 completed PhD projects and holds more than 15 patents.
In ETN WON Prof Gunther Roelkens is an active member of the WON Leading team and acts as supervisor of ESR14 Emadreza Soltanian and making contributions to other ESRs.
