Mr. Emadreza Soltanian
ESR in Ghent University
Short Bio:
Emadreza Soltanian received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering- Electronics in 2018. His research interests include design, modeling, numerical simulation and fabrication of devices and systems based on silicon photonics, transceivers, photonic integrated circuits, and optical MEMS/NEMS. He is working on his Ph.D. project within ETN WON at the Photonics group (IMEC), Department of information technology (INTEC), Ghent University since August 2019. His main focus is on using a novel integration method called transfer printing which enables the dense and high throughput integration of III-V optoelectronic devices on a silicon photonic integrated circuit to realize highly integrated coherent transceivers for next-generation wideband optical networks.

Title: Wideband tunable laser source on a III-V-on-silicon photonic platform
Overview: The ESR is expected to pursue a PhD on III-V on silicon photonic integrated circuits. The goal of the project is to realize a widely tunable laser source that covers an optical bandwidth much broader than what can be achieved with a single epitaxial layer stack. For this purpose we will exploit a recently developed technique called transfer printing to densely integrate an array of different III-V active layer stacks on a single silicon photonic integrated circuit.
