Matheus obtained his Bachelor (cum laude) and Master degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Pernambuco (Recife, Brasil) in 2016 and 2018, respectively. He was also a visiting student at the Polytechnique School of Engineering at New York University (NYC, USA) for the 2014-2015 academic year. Title: Cognitive transponders for wideband optical networks
Overview: The goal of the project is twofold: (1) co-design with the modulator development (ESR13, WP4) and implement a novel transmitter impairment estimation and DSP-based compensation scheme to enable wideband transmitter operation and relax component specifications; (2) design and implement advanced coherent transponder monitoring functionality taking into account also nonlinear signal impairments. The ESR assigned to this project will be first trained on the fundamentals of coherent test and measurement solutions in particular with respect to transmitter calibration and impairment estimation. During secondments with Coriant Germany and Coriant Portugal, the ESR will also be trained in coherent transponder design techniques and on SDN principles and associated south-bound interfaces towards the transponder for integration of the monitoring functionality into SDN control frameworks.
