Mr. Aleksandr Donodin
ESR at Aston University
Short bio:
Aleksandr Donodin obtained his Bachelor degree in Optical Engineering and his Master Degree in Laser Engineering and Laser Technologies at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 2017 and 2019, respectively. From 2016 to 2019 he had been working as an engineer in the Research and academic Centre «Photonics and infrared technology». Currently he is conducting his PhD. at Aston University in the framework of the ETN WON project. Aleksandr’s background includes experimental research and numerical modelling in the fields of Fibre Optics, Femtosecond Fibre Lasers, Optical Frequency Combs, Supercontinuum Generation, Nonlinear Optics and Pulse Amplification.
Early-Stage Researcher 11
Title: Bismuth-doped ultra-broadband fibre amplifier
Overview: The PhD will characterize different types of Bismuth-doped fibres for use in wideband amplification and will develop a Bi-doped fibre amplifier for wideband telecom applications. The project will begin with spectroscopic study of Bi-doped fibre properties, before proceeding to detailed specification of the amplifier architecture, and characterisation of its key properties in terms of bandwidth, gain, output power, and noise figure. The amplifier performance will be evaluated in transmission testing of high speed, wideband signals over extended distances.
